The Guernsey fibre network rollout nears completion
- 67.7% of Guernsey properties are now connected to the fibre network
- 93% of all homes can connect – and should do so as soon as possible
- Copper network switch off begins next week (3 November) and will continue throughout 2026
The Guernsey Fibre network build has passed a significant milestone, with two thirds of Guernsey properties having switched their services to fibre and enjoying the benefits of faster speeds and greater connectivity.
Just over 20,000 homes are now connected to fibre, with thousands more fibre-ready and able to switch today.
Cyrille Joffre, who leads the fibre rollout, celebrated the milestone: “Customers can now enjoy the power of fibre broadband – from working efficiently at home to supporting children’s online learning and streaming their favourite entertainment. Fibre delivers consistently fast, reliable speeds up to 2Gbps, so there are options to suit every home and lifestyle.
“The team has worked tremendously hard to deliver a world-class fibre network to the island on time and on budget, and we’re now on the home straight - which is fantastic for Guernsey’s connectivity and customers’ increasingly digital lives.”
Cyrille encouraged those who haven’t switched yet to do so as soon as possible. “Switching to fibre is quick and seamless,” said Cyrille. “The old copper network is being retired, so it’s vital that everyone – even landline-only customers – switches to fibre to stay connected.”
Guernsey Fibre, which is undertaking the project on behalf of all local telecoms and internet service providers, is working hard to migrate all properties that have yet to switch to fibre, with Changeover Officers out in the community visiting those yet to switch over and support a seamless migration.
The switch off of the old copper network will begin during November and continue in stages throughout 2026. Anyone who wants a landline or broadband service will need to switch to fibre to keep connected to internet services like TV streaming, online radio broadcasts and home WiFi. The lifeline service will also run on the fibre network so family members are encouraged to help out any friends, neighbours or relatives who may not have realised they need a fibre connection.
Anyone who has not yet switched and is in an area where the copper network is due to be switched off will receive up to three visits with contact information left if no one is at home. This is closely followed by three letters communicating the imminent copper service cease, the third and final letter being hand delivered.
All communications encourage them to contact the Guernsey Fibre team on 01481 700900 or a service provider to get switched over as soon as possible.
The fibre network is being rolled out by Sure and the States of Guernsey, which is providing up to £12.5m of the total £37.5m investment. The project has created 80 local jobs, and the Guernsey Fibre team has worked with seven additional local suppliers.
